I hope the Government continues to resist the clamour from some quarters to introduce a minimum price for alcohol.

There are lots of laws giving the police and local councils powers to tackle problem drinking and troublesome premises.

They should be used, rather than forcing up the price for everyone, which would penalise the vast majority who drink responsibly and fall hardest on the least well off.
